Madrid welcomes international golf travel professionals ahead of IEC Málaga 2026

From May 14th to 17th, Madrid hosted an exclusive international Fam Trip organised to present the region’s growing appeal as a premium golf destination ahead of the IAGTO European Convention (IEC) in Málaga, one of the most important events in the European golf tourism industry.

The initiative brought together specialised golf travel professionals from Germany, Poland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, representing companies such as VIVA - Es lebe der Urlaub, Travel Express Golf, Out of Bound Golfresor, Your Golf Travel, TMI Golf and North American Golf Vacation.

Throughout the programme, participants experienced some of the most representative golf courses in the Madrid region, highlighting the quality, variety and accessibility that define the destination. The itinerary included visits and rounds at Real Club de Golf La Herrería, Real Club de Golf La Moraleja, Golf El Encin, Centro Nacional de Golf and Golf Retamares.

From historic surroundings to modern championship layouts, the group was able to discover the diversity of Madrid’s golfing offer and the possibility of combining different golfing experiences within very short travelling distances.

One of the aspects most appreciated by participants was the opportunity to experience Madrid beyond golf itself. The programme included visits to Galería Canalejas and Las Rozas Village, showcasing the city’s premium shopping, gastronomy and lifestyle offering, increasingly valued by international golf travellers seeking complete destination experiences.

As part of the social activities, participants also visited the VP Plaza España Design hotel before enjoying dinner at Ginkgo Sky Bar, where they experienced one of Madrid’s most iconic panoramic views in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere.

The Fam Trip reinforced the growing interest in Madrid as a destination capable of combining high-quality golf, culture, gastronomy, luxury hospitality and excellent international connectivity. Participants particularly highlighted the convenience of the destination, the proximity between golf courses and the city centre, and the opportunity to offer clients a premium urban golf experience throughout the year.

This initiative forms part of the ongoing international promotion strategy developed by the Asociación de Campos de Golf de Madrid to continue positioning the region within the international golf tourism market.
